​Part-time or full time (includes weekends) retail assistant, $14 per hour + staff discount

Urban Matter's retail team is growing and we are looking to hire retail assistants to work between our two South Grand Locations. Besides the "responsibilities" we've listed below, if hired you will also have the important task of representing Urban Matter and sharing the shop's story, as well as acting as an ambassador for the makers whose products we offer. Lastly, we are a diverse group of humans working together to create a beautiful and fun environment for both our customers and staff and we are seeking, hopefully long-term employees who are willing to learn and grow with us.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Has recent retail or customer service experience (preferably 2+ years)
• Can identify what is excellent customer service 
• Available to work most weekends
• Has a sincere interest in local/independently made products and/or the arts
• Has a great attitude: friendly and helpful to customers, co-workers, management and owners 
• Has an excellent work ethic - punctual, reliable, trustworthy and dedicated
• Strong communication skills; asks questions to gain knowledge and clarity
• Takes initiative, good at multitasking, pays attention to detail and wants to learn
• Is flexible and happy to work in a team environment
• Can lift up to 30 pounds and comfortably stand for long periods of time (this is not a sit down job)

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Offer exceptional customer service, greet every customer that comes to the shop, assist them with product information, make recommendations and provide an easy and pleasant shopping and checkout experience
• Learn in detail about our products, where and how they’re made and who they’re made by
• Be responsible for opening and closing the store(s)
  
• Confidently operate our POS system (Square) and maintain the cash register 
  
•  Maintain shops appearance: clean and orderly with tasks like simple merchandising, rearranging out of place products, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning, dusting, removing trash/recycling, etc.
• Maintain back of house, clean kitchen, bathroom, organize storage areas etc. 
  
• Be involved with all aspects of processing inventory
